I don't know if any of you are reading any of this series, or if you are even aware of it at all, but until we get some more personalities on the site with their own personal favorites and recommendations, I will continue with my own and ultimately align with the horror\zombie slant of things.

The Walking Dead is an monthly black and white graphic novel\comic series created by writer Robert Kirkman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kirkman) and artist Tony Moore (http://www.tonymooreillustration.com/)\Charlie Adlard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Adlard) that details the lives of a random group of people immediately after a zombie outbreak. The Walking Dead is published by Image Comics (http://www.imagecomics.com).

Wikipedia Synopsis:
The Walking Dead is an ongoing fictional story centered around a small-town police officer from Kentucky named Rick Grimes, his family, and a number of other survivors who have banded together in order to survive after the world is overrun with zombies. As the series progresses, Rick and the others become more developed, and their personalities shift under the stress of a zombie apocalypse. Fighting growing despair — and occasionally each other — the group searches for a secure location which they can finally call home.

In the beginning every 6 comics would be followed by a trade paperback that included all 6 past comics (sans covers). Now they do this every 5 comics. Hardcovers are also released, a tad bigger and containing 24 issues and including the individual cover art for each comic inside.

The Walking Dead Vol 7: The Ninth Month (Issues #37-#42)

The series is brutal and the creators do not play favorites with the characters. Anyone can go at any time, and that includes the children. As with most serials, the reason why it works is because of the characters. It wouldn't matter what the backdrop was if you could not like, hate or believe the characters and their actions. Luckily, the humans in this series, like ourselves, are flawed. While there are some clear-cut good-guys bad-guys, who you may like or dislike may be different from another reader depending on how you relate to them or their actions.

If you are only interested in the zombies, you wont be let down here, either. These are the slower style zombies, but clearly outnumber the living. They are a dangerous bunch and are presented in ways that range from pathetic to horrifying. Some new elements are borrowed from the well-established zombie mythos as well as others being introduced. There is enough violence and gut-munching to satisfy anyone looking for just that, but lately, the majority of the violence has been performed by the humans against each other.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who is into this type of stuff. It's drama, horror, love-story, thriller, all rolled into one. Check out the links I have listed above..yeah, as usual, they're Amazon links, but I did so for anyone interested to read the reviews left by other readers. You can also check out the Wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Walking_Dead) for spoilers galore and more detailed info.

I picked up the first issue on a whim a couple years back and have been following it ever since. It's the best horror comic out there; a grand sprawling post zombie apocalyptic journey where the characters mature and adapt to their situation in realisitic ways. If you guys dig WWZ and would pick up just one funny book a month this should be it.
