Indianapolis - A two-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot at a wedding reception that turned violent.
Three people were shot Saturday night including the toddler at the Lawrence Community Center at 52nd and Franklin.
"It's just unnecessary. It was supposed to be a joyous occasion for the bride and groom and everyone else who's here and it was needlessly ruined by the acts of the Ponces," said Lt. Gary Woodruff, Lawrence Police Department.
Police say three brothers, Francisco, Jose and Isaias Ponce, walked into the reception unannounced.
"A little scuffle ensued between two of the brothers and then Francisco Ponce introduced a hand gun into the scuffle, fired shots and people who had absolutely nothing to do with the scuffle were struck with the gunfire," said Lt. Woodruff.
Three people were struck. The toddler was hit in the head. Her mother and another woman suffered minor gunshot wounds.
"They had nothing to do with the incident. They were just at a wedding reception hoping to enjoy the evening," said Lt. Woodruff.
Police arrested the Ponce brothers. Francisco, 21, is charged with attempted murder. All three men are behind bars. Jose Ponce, 23, faces charges of battery, disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Isaias Ponce, 28, faces a public intoxication charge.
Interpreters are helping investigators because the witnesses speak only Spanish fluently.
It's unclear whether the three men knew the bride and groom.
The child, Yuridia Sosa, was in critical condition at Methodist Hospital after surgery Sunday. Her mother, Mariela Rodriguez, and another woman were shot in the legs, but are expected to recover.
