HARRISON TWP., Ohio -- A Harrison Township father is in jail on child endangering charges.
Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies said he locked his 2-year-old twins in a room and left the house. Authorities said three other children were also left alone that range in age from 10 to 5 years old, so he could allegedly go to a bar.
According to reports, the oldest child called her grandmother and said she was frightened because she heard someone in the backyard. That is when the grandmother rushed over. "I told her you keep those doors locked. I'm on the way, " said the Grandmother who did not want to be identified.
The woman said she found her five grandchildren home alone. According to Montgomery County police reports, Gary Rodgers left the five children to go to a bar. Their mother had abandoned the family several days ago.
The grandmother also told us that she was so shocked to see the living conditions in the School Drive home, that she called the sheriff's department. "It was filthy, filthy and disgusting," she said.
When deputies arrived, they found something even worse. Reports said an officer found the man's two-year-old twins "locked in a bedroom. Both children were asleep on the floor which was covered with plaster and other debris."
Officers said the door had a lock installed on the outside. The grandmother said, "I found out he locks them in there all the time." Reports said deputies also found urine and feces on the floor. Children's Services arrived and placed the kids in the custody of their maternal grandmother.
Reports said Rodgers eventually arrived home at 4 a.m. and appeared highly intoxicated when they took him into custody.
Currently, Rodgers is in the Montgomery County Jail on five counts of endangering children.http://www.whiotv.com/news/20158474/detail.html
