LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Tuesday night, Lake Charles Police responded the 1900 block of Mill Street in reference to a missing child.
"They were notified that a five year-old girl was missing for some time. Those patrol officers notified our detective unit," said Sgt.. Mark Kraus.
Quinjarvis Durgan made the report to police. After canvassing the neighborhood, residents told police they had seen a white man in a red truck and were concerned she may have been abducted. Police took those concerns seriously and issued an amber alert.
"In cooperation with the information we had with the mother, we began our amber alert process which is very rare. We notified the Lake Charles Fire Department, the Office of Homeland Security, and along with the Office of Child Safety and Welfare," said Kraus.
After searching more than three hours, Lake Charles Police found her in one of the most unlikely places and they say her mother knew where she was the entire time.
"One of the patrol officers who was with the mother, saw the mother had signaled to the vehicle in a matter of don't come in this area. That person turned around and that patrol officer stopped them. He found to his disbelief the missing child was inside that car," said Kraus.
Police say Durgan left the child with a relative.
"That mother from what we can gather was trying to teach her husband a lesson who she believed at one point was less than responsible for the child," said Kraus.
Right , I think my husband isn't being responsible for our child..what can I do? Oh, I know!! I'll fake her abduction! That will teach him! Even though it will waste police resources and make it harder for the next set of parents who report their child missing to be believed, as long as I teach him a lesson, who cares?! Seriously, it's a shame being a selfish bitch isn't a felony.
