Now that's a damn freak occurence. Much moreso than the suit up and swim around interacting with them til you get stung version. Like Bill Maher said "They don't call them hug rays for a reason."

It happened in 2006 as well, a ray jumped onto a boat and killed an 81 year old South Florida man.
I come from a coastal Aboriginal community, and trust me, none of us blackfellas stay in the water once a ray has been spotted. I know marine biologists reckon they are shy and harmless, but you can't convince us that's the case. I know of too many people who have been CHASED out of the water by small sting rays, so you can't convince us that they're not aggressive.

Some guy was giving an interview about this on tv. He said rays don't jump out of water unless they are being pursued by a predator.

That'd be correct. She was dreadfully unlucky.
Then again, she WAS from Michigan.

For those who want to be less unlucky, crank up your speedboat and run it down the Illinois River. The Asian Carp are making real headway in taking over this river from the native species, and they don't care for the sound of those pesky boat motors, and to express their displeasure, they leap right out of the water. I know a few people who've suddenly wound up with huge flopping fish in their boats. Damn things can get up to 100 pounds. I don't think anyone's been killed yet, but it's coming.

They're awful, my bro went to Havanna for the annual run your boat through the dark with a spotlight and gather as many as you can, the video sounds like the boat is under siege.
I spend alot of time on the Vermillion and they come after paddle craft too, frighteningly big suckers.
