HAMILTON, Ohio—A coroner in Ohio has ruled that a 5-year-old boy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but officials have not decided if any charges should be filed.

An investigator for the Butler County coroner’s office determined that the shooting Saturday evening was an accident.

Authorities said Zachariah Nesbitt found a handgun in his family’s apartment in Hamilton and shot himself in the chest. The bullet penetrated his lung.

Police believe both the boy’s parents were home when the shooting occurred. Investigators indicate there could be a decision later this week on whether charges should be filed.

The man who called 911 said to the operator "he got my damn gun out of the closet."
Obviously it was not secure enough to be in the home with a 5 year old.

Heres a page where you can leave your prayers for the family.

I want so badly to put something about gun safety and this could have been avoided but am not sure if thats the right place because it's for the whole family. Not just the Fucktard gun owner.

They give out free gun locks at the sheriffs office or the like...there is no excuse for this and no taking it back!
How truly terrible. RIP little guy.

Irresponsible idiots with guns. It was only a matter of time someone would turn up dead. The child was almost a sure bet to be the victim.

Rest in peace little Zachariah.
