A mother, happy that her baby was recovering from the stomach flu, dropped her child off at day care only to get a call late in the afternoon that her 4-month-old was being rushed to the hospital the apparent victim of child abuse, according to court records.

In-home day care owner Brooke Stiner, 29, of Denver faces one count of child abuse following an incident involving a child in her care.

The baby suffered seizures inside Stiner's home and was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center on June 25. Paramedics were told the baby was having seizures and was unresponsive.

According to court documents, doctors told investigators the baby suffered retinal hemorrhaging in her eyes and sustained bleeding on the brain and a fractured skull. Doctors told investigators the injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

The court documents state the baby had just returned to Stiner's care the day of the injuries following several days off. The baby had been home with the stomach flu.

The child's mother stated the baby was almost back to herself and playful when she took the baby to Stiner's home. The mother then got a call at 5:30 p.m. from her husband saying their child was being rushed to the hospital.

Stiner told investigators that she was only watching one child at the time along with her son.

According to Stiner's arrest record, she was arrested on May 3 for a misdemeanor drug charge.http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=119824

The doctors found the child had several "subdurals," which creates "bleeding on the brain," the affidavit stated. One subdural appeared new and another old. A doctor also stated the child appeared to have a skull fracture.

According to the affidavit, the baby's mother told a detective the child previously came home with a large bruise on her leg and a red mark across her neck a couple weeks later.

In the latter incident, Stiner told the baby’s mother the child was seated in an "exercise saucer." Since the child could not hold her neck up, a pillow was used to "prop her up," the affidavit said. The mother said she was told the baby's neck "slipped and hit the side of the saucer."

Even if I bought the explanations of accidental bruises, I would find another daycare. I would want someone less careless with my kid.

when I was a day care teacher..one of my students tripped & fell on a bookshelf bruising her eye..i cried with her..i cried with her mom..i even offered to leave my position if need be. I could not imagine hurting a child intentionally.
p.s..the girl recovered and her mom and I are now best friends. :)

Even if I bought the explanations of accidental bruises, I would find another daycare. I would want someone less careless with my kid.

When my kid was learning to move, she started showing all sorts of bruises, and each time she got a new one, I had a near frantic baby sitter explaining where the bruise came from, or calling me at work " I think your daughter might have a black eye" Of course, my Boogie was pulling herself up on things and "cruising" before she could even sit upright on her own. Poor balance+child determined to move and climb= a bruised up baby.

Now, if my kid were coming home w bruises BEFORE she started moving and climbing on all sorts of shit, I'm pretty sure that's cause for alarm bells. If a child can't even hold it's head up yet, there shouldn't be ANY reason that the poor thing is coming home covered in bruises.

Umm, there are other things you can seat a baby in before she can hold her head up... the exersaucer is a poor choice at that stage. The pillow to prop her up story is mindblowing to me. How is her kid? We might want to give him a check-up too!

Any motherfucker who lays a hand on my child will be physically and psychologically damaged for the rest of their life. I would make it my life's mission to follow them, study them, find out how to hurt them most effectively so that every goddamned day they lived their miserable putrid worthless life they would suffer. And then when they are a broken shell of a human being I will force them to do both mine and my daughter's bidding in humiliation and servitude.

I just placed my daughter in daycare for the first time after nearly 2 years of being at home with her. I guess the separation anxiety is making this a touchy subject.
