Hi everyone, I'm new here, altho I've read the forums and articles on this site for a while. I like to read about true crime and aviation accidents. I'm a mother of 6 grown kids, and am probably older than most of you here.;)

Well, I'm 56, so I guess I AM the oldest here!
My youngest kid is 20, and my oldest is 31! I've been married for 36 years.
I've got tons of books on true crime and airplane crashes. Anyone here interested in airplane crashes? One of my sons-in-law is a pilot and will be working for a USAir subsidiary after he finishes his training.:)

I've always loved airplanes and flying. One of my daughters has a degree in aviation, and as I said before one of my sons-in-law is a pilot. His dad is a pilot for Fed-Ex.
I consider plane crashes similar to to true crime. Clues are left behind that you have to figure out. Sometimes a crash IS a crime of negligence or sabotage.
It's only been a few years that I've started collecting books on the subject. Alot of people think I'm morbid for reading about it, but who cares?

I'll be 46 in June, a pilot (private), and aircraft owner. I read lots of aircraft accident stuff too. But mostly I'm just an old biker.
Son-in-law is going to be a pilot huh...what is he going to do for money? :)
(ask him what he'll be making for the first 5 years....then give him $5.00)
Welcome!

Forget my last little quip, if he gets on with Fed-Ex he will hit the mother load.
Those guys make big bank!!
It's not easy to get on with them, you HAVE to know someone in the company and be recommended.

Yeah my son-in-law won't be making much the first few years at USAir, that's for sure! But he figures in about 3 years his dad can get him on at Fed-Ex, then he'll be doing a whole lot better!:D

I grew up in Cerritos, in 1986,a DC-9 crashed in my block about 4 streets over from my house. my entire family was in the kitchen eating. we ran outside and watched it fall out of the sky then jumped in the car and drove over there. I watched homes burn and parts of people. here is a little blurb about it

Welcome, TC!
I've grown up within a stone's throw from Sea-Tac International and my daddy works for Boeing. I took aviation courses in high school (a standard course for public schools in Jet City) and would have been a pilot myself, but my eyesight is awful. My best friend is a flight attendant for Horizon/Alaska, though, so I still fly around all the time, even if I can't be behind the wheel...and I'm considering the Air Force, anyway. :p
Wasn't the period after 9/11 just the creepiest EVER? I'm not sure how close you live to an airport or a flight path...but not hearing the regular thunder of jets roaring by chilled me to my bone.
It's nice to have someone around so closely tied to the aerospace community! You must be damn proud of your spawn. :D

I lived in Tacoma(Lakewood, actually) from 1964-1971. My dad and 2 sisters still live there. My dad worked for Boeing! Small world!

I worked at a small airport (Sky Acres) here in NY for several years before college and it was awesome, especially the day I got to go up in a New York State Trooper Helicopter, I loved that job!
Except for two days.
One was a beautiful Saturday morning with barely a breeze and unlimited visibility.
Tony Fine was giving instruction to Robert Abady, they were doing touch-n-go's and had trouble on one of the "go's"...engine sputtering. Instead of setting back down and taking their chances with the end of the runway and grass over-run, they tried to come back around. They'd almost made it to the field on the far side of the runway when their wing clipped a tree and they spun down into a swamp.
I'll never forget it, graceful (if troubled) flight one second...falling heap of scrap the next.
My High School principal (who also had a plane) and I were the first on the scene.
Abady caught the yolk in the mouth and knocked all his front teeth out. Tony Fine, who was also a commercial pilot, caught the yolk right between his eyes, knocked a hole the size of a quarter in his head and severed both optic nerves...
blinded for life.
What was really telling about what kind of men they were was that Abady, who drove a Ferrari and owned the less than stellar Cessna 152 they went down in, was screaming and crying like a little bitch, while Tony was calm and collected, once he found out that his student would be OK is biggest concern was having someone call his work to let them know that he "probably wouldn't be flying this afternoon".
The Other was the day I was mowing Tie-downs and just caught out of the corner of my eye a plane disappear into the tree line.
Tom Schneider (father of TV's Dukes Of Hazzard star John) was test flying a plane he'd just serviced when something went wrong. He went down in the front yard of one of the airport's neighbors. This one wasn't as bad, broken legs/ankles, and he was back to work and flying after rehab.
Now (depending on wind) I live in the pattern of Stewart International Airport and Air Force Base. Besides passenger planes I occasionally see some fun stuff flying, jets, choppers, and an occasional C-5! :D
