An 81-year-old Australian man has shot himself dead with an elaborate suicide robot built using plans he downloaded from the Internet.

The Gold Coast man, who lived alone, left notes of his plans and thoughts as he struggled to come to terms with demands by interstate relatives that he move out his home and into care.

He spent hours searching the Internet for a way to kill himself, downloaded what he needed and then built a complex machine that would remotely fire a gun.

He set the device up in his driveway about 7 a.m. Wednesday, placed himself in front of it and set it in motion.

His notes explained that he chose the driveway as he knew there were tradesmen working next door who would find his body. The plan worked as the workmen heard the gunshots and ran to investigate.

The machine was attached to a .22 semi-automatic pistol loaded with four bullets.

It was able to fire multiple shots into the man's head after he activated it.

So, is this suicide, or murder? And are they going to arrest the robot, or use it to carry out other prison executions? Things that make you go hmmmm....

Self built guilliotine > Self built automatic gun fireing mechanism - Now that guilliotine guy we read about not long ago was fucking classy.

Had it been a real full fledge robot hacked for murder instead of basically a remote switch then Id say it was a cooler contraption... "Now WOW WEE, you must kill me"

Oh great. As if we didn't allready have a bad enough rep with all the Hollywood rumors. Hey, I think I may be related to that bot. I'll have to ask mom.

I was just thinking. If this guy had the intellligence and motor skills to build a robot with that kid of aim, go outside, set the whole thing up, and enact the plan, did he really need to be in a nursing home? I mean, really?

I gotta agree with you Imp. Anyone that can pull off something like this does not need a nursing home. Wonder if the family was after money ?

Hey now, leave the robot alone. Robots don't kill people, people who have the time and inclination to create killer robots kill people. Or something like that.

Good question!
Though I suppose it wasn't technically a robot, but a purpose built machine.
Like the Army's ROV's...someone said "Hey, we could put a gun, maybe a bomb or two on this sucker and have some real fun!"
