Well howdy ho, neighbors! Ya'll have tidbits of me from here & there, but I'll make it official. I tend to ramble so settle in comfortably..
I was born and raised in small town eastern NC, which is one of the greatest places on Earth. I love heat and humidity, the hotter the better, if it's below 75 I'm cold. Move here from the North and bitch about the heat? Well, go back where you came from fucker bcs that's how it is here.
I like oldies (50's & 60's), some 70's, love 80's, and adore beach music..nothing gets me wishing for a hot day, warm sand on my feet, a beer in my hand and that glorious sound from the angels, waves crashing on the shore, more than The Embers, The Drifters, The Tams, etc. I'll make this public service announcement here: The Beach Boys are NOT beach music. They are a pop band. Ask any original NC'er and they will confirm this.
Thanks to the U.S. Military I have had the pleasure of living in various parts of Europe which I absolutely loved because I have always enjoyed history and some places just boggle the mind with their sheer beauty and age. Europeans also absolutely have perfected wine and beer, so it really wasn't a hardship to live there :).
We now live outside of a rural community where we got more house and land for the buck but the commute to work sucks. I was a stay-at-home mommy while he was active duty and deployed to Iraq, he's a disabled veteran now but fuck it he's home and safe and out of the Army. About 7 months ago I rejoined the work force and most days love the hell out of it. I work for the government so between the shit we see there and this site, some days are tough and I have to go home and just cry.
As seen in the picture thread I have been blessed with two gorgeous kids, who are a pleasure to have in my life most of the time ;). One I had to work to get here, have the scars to prove it, and the other was a surprise.
Anywho, kids are good. I am old school South so my kids say please, thank you, sir, ma'am, etc. and know they will get an earful or a swat on the ass if they don't use their manners and are disrespectful, especially to adults/elders. They know they will not be given everything on a platter, they have to earn their rewards, and there are consequences to their behavior and I really don't care if it pisses you off. Katie is tired of hearing "It's okay, you're allowed to be mad at Mommy. One day you'll thank me." and "I don't like what you did but I love you no matter what." Bored? No you may not watch tv, go outside and play dammit, and not on that damn electric scooter your friend has..God gave you legs and feet for a reason - use them. Some of it is genetic but there are a lot of other reasons today's newer generations are fat and lazy.
Finding DD has been a saving grace for me. I know a lot of folks here have mentioned struggles and scars and I think that's why some of us converge together and share here. For me it's pretty cool bcs there's something soothing and comforting about being with people that just get you and understand why certain things feel a certain way.
Where DD fits in is even though you are real-face less, real-name less avatars on my computer, in my heart and soul you mean so much more. You people get me. You accept me no matter what. On my travels down the road of healing I have been betrayed and let down by the people that were supposed to be at the top of my support list, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt there are at least a few folks here I could PM, day or night, and you would be there for me to listen, cry, talk, laugh, share, and support. That is almost too much for me to comprehend, but I am thankful just the same that I found you guys. I am like so NOT a gamer in any way so understanding the intent and purpose behind the original creation of DD is way beyond my realm of comprehension, but what it has become now...I can't find all the words. You are support, understanding, acceptance, goofy friendly bastards who somehow are helping me on my journey, and I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sniffle. But I can't leave ya'll hanging all sad and shit, so here are useless tidbits:
*I loved NHL Hockey long before Carolina got a team. (Go Sabres!)
*Speaking of the 'Canes..even being NC born & bred am I the only one who thinks it's a fucking joke that we have a mascot, cheerleaders and tailgating for hockey?? (OK, so the tailgating is fun, but cheerleaders?!? And they wonder why no one took us seriously til we got the Cup)
*I met my husband on the internet.
*I just know a fucking man invented the mammogram machine and pantyhose as punishment.
*I ponder useless stuff, like just how hungry was the poor bastard who first looked at an oyster and thought "I'm gonna crack open this ugly shell, see if there's something in there and if there is, I'm gonna eat it!!"
*Unsweet tea is a waste of water.
*In NC, BBQ is a food group.
*Now & Laters are the single greatest invention of all time.
Perhaps strength does not reside in having never been broken..but in the courage required to grow strong in the broken places.
