I'm such a dick, I posted this in the wrong place...here goes take two:
So, I've been rattling around the internet trying to find a decent crime site to fill the gap crime library's closing left, and I came across this site. Unbelievable! Why have I not found it before? It's vastly superior to my former favourite site, so I'm very impressed.
Anyway, a little about myself. Hmm, well I'm a 30ish mum of six children (one died at birth due to severe heart condition however). I live in Australia with my wonderful partner of 13 years, way out in the bush, on a property with my best friend and her partner and five children, surrounded by lots of trees, native animals, a couple of dogs, a few cats, a rabbit, many chickens and fish, and a fairly tame echidna (we don't own him, he owns the land we happen to live on, so we're his tenants I guess lol).
I'm also that person whose in every good circle of friends, that one who the other's refer to as morbid, scary, a little strange, perhaps a bit of a sicko who can tell...but of course I'm NOT!! I'm just fascinated by deviant behaviour...not of the sexual variety (tho that's pretty interesting in itself lol) but of the criminal kind. I read stories about serial killers and wonder what on earth made them this way, how do they think, why do they WANT to do the things they do. I read about people who "snap" and kill a whole bunch of innocent people, while their neighbors give soundbites about how they were perfectly normal, and wouldn't harm a fly and everyone's so shocked, and I think to myself "REALLY?". Is that possible? I'm not sure I believe it, there's gotta be some signs of a person's mental state deteriorating, something that would have indicated their intentions...but I don't know, so I'm intrigued.
I read about people who hurt, sexually abuse, neglect, forget, or even kill their kids, and I am dumbfounded. What is it in these people that allows them to override one of our most basic biological instincts...that instinct to protect our young. Most parents would give their lives for their children, but some are so inhuman that they seem to have no feelings towards their children whatsoever. And what feelings they do have must be a very pale imitation of a normal parent's love for their child, or else how could they make the decisions they make, how could they hurt their child or leave them with someone who is capable of abusing a baby.
It's that inhumanity in them that draws me...I'm the kind of person who always wants to know WHY. Why did this happen? Why do they think like that? What is it that makes them different to me? The aberrant psychology fascinates me. And I really think that here I'll get my fill of scouring the dregs of society, so THANK YOU, and it's great to be here. *bows*
