PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Pierce County investigators have arrested a second suspect accused of robbing two pre-teen boys in Puyallup on May 16.
Pierce county sheriff's Detective Lynelle Anderson said the man arrested Monday night is 21-year-old Tommy James Kurtz. Another man, 22-year-old John-David Faddis (aka ‘Frosty’ ), was arrested in Puyallup Friday after police received a tip from Crime Stoppers.
Police the men are two of three who robbed and threatened two 12-year-old boys outside a Puyallup Safeway store. The victims, who asked to be identified only as Sam and Jason, said they were waiting to see a movie across the street when the men approached them and demanded they hand over their food and money.
"I was scared and intimidated. I didn't know what was going to happen, if they were going to hurt me or my friend," said one boy. The men also threatened to break the boys' jaws if they didn't comply, police said.
Anderson said Kurtz has confessed to robbing the two boys of candy, money and their cell phones outside the South Hill store because he and the two other men were "hungry, tired, and the two boys looked like easy marks."
The victims interviewed by KIRO 7 called the suspects "pathetic" for targeting 12-year-olds. Faddis pleaded not guilty to one count of robbery and one count of attempted robbery during his arraignment Monday.
Investigators said the three suspects all consider themselves Juggalos, a nickname for fans of the rap group Insane Clown Posse and often used as a gang name. Anderson said the third suspect, who is still being sought, is a man known as "Soldier" who, despite his nickname, is not in the armed services.
Crime Stoppers of Tacoma/Pierce County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information on the remaining suspect.
