Salem detectives served a search warrant at the home of Catalina Mendoza Cervantes, 40, at 3369 River Road North in Keizer at about 7 a.m. and found her children aged 8 and 12 were home alone, Lt. Dave Okada said.
While searching the home, officers found a small amount of cocaine in her children's room as well as packaging materials and scales, Okada said.
Detectives were told that Cervantes was at work and had left about two hours before but they later learned that she'd received a phone call warning her that police were on their way to her home, Okada said
Police managed to contact Cervantes on the phone and she refused to come home despite leaving her children alone, Okada said.
Detectives located an address that she may have fled to, and when they arrived she tried to escape out the back, Okada said.
Cervantes was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of cocaine, unlawful delivery of cocaine, child abandonment, endangering the welfare of a minor and maintaining a place where drugs are used.
Her children were placed in protective custody.
