WTF?!? The little guy only looks 5 or 6!
SHOREWOOD -- Police believe there are children in the area with George Jerutis' tattoo ink under their skin, and they want to know how many.
Jerutis, 54, has been jailed since Thursday, accused of tattooing two kids.
His wife, Sandra, faces the same charge but was released on a recognizance bond, said Shorewood police Cmdr. Aaron Klima. Jerutis remained in the Will County Jail on Monday under $500 bond.
"It's my understanding that the parents found the tattoos on the kids, and the kids confessed to it, and they called us," Klima said. "We know through our discussions with some of the kids around there are other kids who have been tattooed."
Investigators want to add any additional tattooed minors to their report, and they suspect parents would like to have their kids checked out by a doctor.
"We don't have any information that it was a particularly unhealthy environment," Klima said.
Police found "a tattoo machine, ink, needles and materials and other items supporting the charge of tattooing the body of a minor" in the Jerutises' hotel room at the Joliet Inn near Interstate 55 and Jefferson Street.
He advertised his services to area youth by word of mouth, police said.
Jerutis ran a pair of tattoo parlors before allegedly embarking on illicit enterprises. He operated Hook's Tattoo Mania on Plainfield Road in Crest Hill and Hook's Tattoo & Body Piercing on New Lenox Road in Joliet.
Similar charge in 2001
Jerutis ran afoul of the law in 2001 when Joliet police charged him with tattooing a 13-year-old and two 15-year-olds.
One of the boys reportedly was referred to Jerutis by a friend and told he was a tattoo artist who made house calls. Two of the teens were tattooed in a house on Elmwood Street and another in a house on Lincoln Avenue, police said.
The prior charge against Jerutis was dropped after one of the alleged victims failed to appear in court.
Any parent who suspects his or her child was tattooed by Jerutis is asked to call the Shorewood Police Department's detective unit at 815-725-1460.
