ROCKLEDGE, Fla. -- A mother was accused Friday of robbing a fast-food restaurant in Brevard County Friday with her small child in the back seat.

Investigators said Miranda Marie Peters-Ortiz robbed a Wendy's on U.S. 1 in Cocoa from the drive-through window. They said she had a handgun and her 3-year-old daughter was in the car.
Police said they arrested Ortiz after a wild chase that continued even after her tires were shredded with stop sticks. Police said she was smoking crack cocaine as they tried to get her out of her car and they ultimately had to break the driver's side window.
Ortiz and her daughter were taken to Wuesthoff Medical Center where the father of the girl picked her up. The girl was unharmed.
Ortiz had been reported missing before the incident. Officials said the father was surprised to learn the girl was with her at the time of the crime.
Deputy Chief Bobby Jones said officers would not have pursued the car had they known a child was inside.
"Absolutely not," he said. "We can not put a child in that type of jeopardy or danger."
Ortiz is being charged with armed robbery, aggravated fleeing and possession of cocaine. http://www.wesh.com/news/19798101/detail.html
