Craig Shearer forces 4-year-old to eat poop

A Goodloe Chapel Road resident was indicted Thursday on charges of first-degree criminal abuse and being a persistent felony offender after allegedly beating a 4-year-old boy and forcing him to eat feces.

Craig Freeling Shearer, 30, is accused in the indictment of committing the offense between March 1 and April 10 by “intentionally beating B.S., a 4-year-old child, and forcing B.S. to ingest feces, thereby placing B.S. in a situation that may have caused him to suffer a serious physical injury and causing him torture and/or cruel punishment.”

The persistent felony offender charge stems from a 2007 conviction in Madison Circuit Court on methamphetamine possession and fourth-degree assault charges, the indictment alleges.

As a result of the persistent felony offender charge, the first-degree criminal abuse charge is a Class B felony punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted.http://www.richmondregister.com/localnews/local_story_170201045.html

Investigators say the child's father alerted them to the abuse when he took the four-year-old for the weekend and noticed bruises on his forehead, back and arms. ...

Police say the child was left Shearer's care sometimes 12 or 14 hours or longer at a time, and say they think that's probably when most of the abuse, which they say including forcing the child to eat his own feces and drink his own urine as punishment for bathroom accidents.

Police say it's hard to pinpoint exactly when the alleged abuse occurred because of the age of the victim and the types of injuries, but say the abuse happened on at least two occasions.

Police say they've dealt with Shearer before, as he has previously been convicted of assault and being in possession of meth.

Investigators also say the boy's 18-month-old sister has injuries as well, but so far doctors can't determine if those injuries are accidental.
