Ever go through the trouble of creating a great post, only to have nothing but page views? Welcome to my world. Ever wish you could actually get rewarded by posting? If not, then get the hell out of this thread. If so, read on.

We would like give some of our current posters, and any possible newcomers, with an incentive to not only post, but to create great posts that are deemed worthy of the front page.

See, there is only so much time in the day and I can only do so much to keep this place active. I love the changes, myself and swivel are rejuvenated and have made a solid commitment to keep this site going come hell or high-water. But keeping the front page full of interesting articles is tough when you are only two people and we don't have money to pay staff to help out. So we decided to give posters a bit of an incentive. We already have a reward system in place that we are working on. For now, it's mostly just awards saying thanks, or reaching milestones, but we are tossing around some other ideas. But that is for a different thread. For now, we are talking about Shoving.

From here until whenever, if a member creates a post that is purely their own words, be it an review, a point of view, or just plain old news that deals with movies, music, books or just strange events, and is deemed good enough, we will Shove it to the front page. This will be noticeable by a glowing icon beside the thread along with a ribbon in the top right corner of the opening post. The user who has the most posts moved to the front page by the end of the month will receive a 20.00 Amazon Gift Cert. That's pretty much a free movie a month for doing what a lot of you already do anyway.

Only 15 articles will be chosen on any given day, and a particular post may not even be chosen on the day it is created. We are trying for a bit of diversity, but news can be slow in certain areas, so some days the front page may look like a gaming site while others will look like a movie blog. In case of two or more people tying for number of posts shoved, it will be a random pick between them. For now, only myself and Killjoy have the ability to shove a thread, so no worries about any type of favoritism.

Why would we do this? Well, because want to, and honestly, it is an easy way to get some help with content. Since we have no ads on the site aside from promoting the fuck out of Amazon, some may wondering what is our angle...aren't we losing money doing this? The answer is yes. But had this site ever been created to make money, I would have failed at that venture 2 years ago. :) If this site ever gets into any position to where any money spent can be compensated, we'll cross that bridge at that time.

Again, just make sure that if you are constructing a post you would like to see go up front, create a post as you would any blog or article. Make it interesting, informative or both. Wanna stick to just the facts as I do, go ahead. Wanna infuse some of your personality like swivel? Go for it. Just make sure it is your words, not copied from another source. Check out any front page entries for examples if you need to.

You never know, you might even get some fans.

So, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to do so.

Oh, for an example, check the music forum here:

You will see where I have "Shoved" the Hazard County Girls thread up front. It has a very identifiable icon beside it and it also has a nifty medal inside the post (http://www.dreamindemon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=205) in the upper right corner.

Two of my threads got "shoved last month" whore. I don't care if you were just testing or not, I at least want the damned "Shoved" ribbon next to it. ;)

In all seriousness, I think this is a great idea. I think it will encourage more posting and hopefully intelligent posting. I don't think the Amazon gift card is really necessary as I think many people would just love to see their post on the front page. I surely wont complain about the ability to earn a gift card from Amazon though.

Can we nominate threads to be shoved? Obviously nominating our own threads wouldn't count, of course.

Sure. If you see a thread you feel should be shoved up front, simply reply to it. Thank it or just suggest it be placed up front. Not saying we will, but obviously if members are finding a post useful and\or informative, then it would stand to reason that other people may as well.

So yeah, nominate in any way you feel is warranted.

This topic kinda fell by the wayside, but I did want to bump it so that people knew that this has gone into effect. But let me stress something. If you are going to post an article, don't worry about cutting and pasting it. Just do a quick summary and link to the article. It makes it easier fro me to get it on the front page. I don't mind summarizing an article someone posts because of the low post activity we have, I got the time to do it. If posting ever picks up, I probably will not.

Also, to ensure there is no favoritism going on, if you see a post you think deserves to be on the front page, reply to the post stating so. If a few people think it should go, it'll go.
