An 18-year-old Merritt college student was shot to death Tuesday morning by her boyfriend, who was upset with her because she wanted to end their relationship, investigators said Wednesday.
Police said Jesse James Blue, 21, was arrested on suspicion of murder after making admissions in the fatal shooting of Ayesha Thomason, who moved to Oakland last year after graduating from high school in South Carolina.
The shooting happened about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Thomason's sister's home in the 9800 block of C Street. Thomason had been living there since moving to Oakland, police said.
Sgt. Alex Perez said the couple met about six months ago at Merritt College, where they were both students.
Thomason worked at an East Oakland fast food restaurant, and Blue at a retirement home.
Perez said Thomason had recently decided to end the couple's relationship, which had upset Blue.
The two got into a heated argument at the C Street home Tuesday morning, which ended with Thomason being shot, Perez said.
No one else was at home when the shooting happened, police said.
Thomason died about an hour later.
Blue was detained at the home and was arrested after making admissions, police said.
