PARKERSBURG - Two Parkersburg residents were arrested Thursday on charges pertaining to the safety and health of their four children, officials said.
Christopher Shane Whited, 27, of 2900 27th St., was charged with child abuse, which resulted in the injury of his 5-year-old son, and child neglect. Whited's wife, Rebecca Jayne Whited, 28, was charged with child neglect, said Capt. D.G. Barker with the Parkersburg Police Department.
Christopher Whited allegedly struck the oldest child in the face and caused bruising and swelling. The child was treated and released from an area hospital.
Child Protective Services removed all four children - ages 5-years-old, 4-years-old, 3-years-old and 11-months-old - from the residence and placed them into the custody of the state. All children are fine, Barker said.
The Whited residence was filled with trash and rotten food as well as infested with flies and gnats, according to the police report.
Christopher Whited was arraigned in the Wood County Magistrate Court and was placed in the North Central Regional Jail on $30,000 bond.
Rebecca Whited was arraigned in the Wood County Magistrate Court and released on $10,000 bail.
The arrests are the result of an investigation by Child Protective Services, Barker said.
"Child Protective Services called us for back up because of the conditions of the home," he said.
