PORT RICHEY — Daniel Lee Stuckey attacked his wife with a hatchet early Monday while she slept with the couple's daughters, the Pasco Sheriff's Office said, but he stopped after the girls asked him not to hurt their mother.

About 1:42 a.m., Stuckey, 42, of 10018 Old Orchard Lane, hit his wife in the head, waking her up, authorities said. She tried to remove the hatchet from her husband's grasp, but he struck her on the right forearm and on the right side of her head while screaming "Die, b----, die," authorities said.

After his girls pleaded with him, Stuckey dropped the hatchet and walked outside the house.

A blood trail led from the bedroom to the kitchen, the report said, where Stuckey's wife went after the attack. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Stuckey told authorities he was "tired of it all" and said he was a "punk" who couldn't finish what he was going to do.

Why did he stop? authorities asked. "I couldn't take away my babies' mother." Stuckey has been charged with attempted murder and is being held without bail in the Land O'Lakes jail.
