Police say he attempted to make good on his promise of violence early Monday morning, killing the couple’s two children and her mother.
The 35-year-old Mammone is in police custody for allegedly slitting the throats of his children — Macy Mammone, 5, and her brother, James Mammone IV, 3. Stark County Coroner P.S. Murthy said the children were killed in a vehicle at an apartment complex on Fulton Road NW.
A third victim, the children’s grandmother, Margaret J. Eakin, 57, was shot to death earlier, according to neighbors.
Marcia and James Mammone were divorced in April. She had custody of the children, and he was granted scheduled visitation and was permitted to keep the children overnight, according to the schedule. Pick up and drop off of the children was to be at Eakin’s home. He was to have no contact with Marcia Mammone outside of text messages, and only about the children during his visits with them.
James Mammone III was arrested and charged with domestic violence on June 13, 2008. Investigators say he told his wife, “I’ll put you in a grave,” and, “I’m going to kill you.”
He plead no contest to domestic violence, a misdemeanor, and was sentenced to two years probation, according to court records.
Marcia Mammone had filed for a civil protection order in late June 2008. Court records say her husband repeatedly threatened to kill her if she left him. The order is still in effect.http://www.cantonrep.com/communities/canton/x313678469/Police-find-suspect-in-Canton-shooting
The suspect took his two children down to the garage area in the rear of the complex around 8:15 a.m., Pittman said.
‘‘He put them into their car seats and cut their throats,’’ Pittman said. ‘‘The cops stopped his car as he tried to go out the driveway, but why they didn't do anything before that is beyond me. The kids were already dead.’’
Pittman said Canton police arrested the suspect at about 8:30 a.m.
EMS personnel removed the boy, 3, and girl, 5, from the tan Chevrolet Corsica.

‘‘He was a nice guy. He was intelligent and had a college degree,’’ Pittman said. ‘‘But he lost his previous professional job, lost his wife and might also have been losing his kids as well. He just lost it.’’http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/47213067.html
