http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo35/Special2bme/LeonardMichaelGarza.jpgA 29-year-old South Side man has been charged in connection with head injuries his baby suffered this week, police said.

Leonard Michael Garza remains jailed on a $75,000 bond on a charge of injury to a child-serious bodily injury.

Police said they suspect Garza injured the 5-month-old boy Monday, after the mother left to a restaurant. When the woman returned 10 minutes later, Garza told her something had gone wrong with the child, police said.

According to the warrant, Garza had used heroin shortly before the mother stepped out of the home in the 200 block of Burcham.

When she noticed the child appeared to be dying, she asked Garza to call 911. The baby was flown to University Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a skull fracture, police said.

While the mother and other relatives visited the hospital, Garza remained at home and refused to answer phone calls, police said. After relatives gave consent to search the home, police officers found Garza hiding in a closet.

He was arrested on city warrants and jailed before authorities filed the current charge. The boy's mother also was arrested on city warrants. She told authorities that Garza had a history of abusing her and the child, police said.

This is a seriously fucked up sentence:

When she noticed the child appeared to be dying, she asked Garza to call 911.

Dope and babies are not a good mix - it's weird though because I would have expected him to just go on the nod and drop the kid or something. Not break his fucking head.

Bastard piece of shite.

http://i39.tinypic.com/et730n.jpgPolice have arrested a 23-year-old woman who authorities believe knew that the father of her 5-month-old boy was using heroin while she left him in charge of the infant.

Nicole Aparicio is being booked in Bexar County Jail on Thursday morning in lieu of $25,000. She faces a charge of child endangerment in connection with the injury of her infant, who was hospitalized after she left the child in the care of Leonard Michael Garza, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

On June 15, Aparicio and Garza were at their home with the infant when Garza went to the restroom and allegedly used heroin, the affidavit states.

After Garza emerged, Aparicio left the home to go to a nearby restaurant, the affidavit states. She returned 10 minutes later and Garza told her something had gone wrong with the child, police said.

The infant was flown to University Hospital, and doctors there and at Santa Rosa Children’s Center for Miracles diagnosed traumatic brain injury, retinal hemorrhaging, a subdural hematoma, and significant bruising, all derived from abuse, the affidavit states.

Garza was arrested on June 17 and charged with injury to a child-serious bodily injury. He remains in Bexar County Jail in lieu of $75,000. At that time, police also arrested Aparicio on city warrants, the affidavit states.

During the course of interviews with police, Aparicio told police she knew Garza had used heroin and he had physically abused the child in the past, the affidavit states. “This physical abuse included him slapping the children, yelling at the children, throwing things at the children, and hitting them,” the affidavit states. In addition, Aparicio told police that Garza once became upset when the infant was crying, so he put his fist in the child’s mouth to shush him.

According to the affidavit, the day her infant was injured, Aparicio knew Garza had used heroin before she left the home, she told police.http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/49088531.html
