Trial date set for Blackhawk couple charged with felony neglect

An Oct. 27 trial date has been set for a Blackhawk couple accused of felony neglect of their two preschool-age children.
Amanda L. Ford, 27, and Carl D. Ford, 28, were initially arraigned in Vigo Superior Court Division 6, but were transferred to Superior Court Division 3 on Tuesday, when they both were assigned public defenders.
The probable cause affidavit filed in the case states that a Vigo County sheriff’s deputy was called to the Ford home along Indiana 159 in Blackhawk on May 27, when two small children were reported playing outside along the highway. The officer found a 2-year-old girl in a feces-covered diaper, and a naked 4-year-old boy standing in the front yard of the residence.
The officer found the front door of the home partially open, but after knocking several times and calling for the parents, no one responded. The officer reported he entered the home to find the parents asleep in the bedroom, unaware of the time or the location of their children.
The children were removed from the home by Child Protective Services. It was the second time in a month that the sheriff’s department had been called to investigate child neglect at the home. The report states the parents admitted to using marijuana and methamphetamine within two days of the incident.
A pretrial hearing for the couple was set for Oct. 5 in Superior Court Division 3.

they should have been arrested over a month ago when one of the children was walking down the train tracks and the mom didnt know she was missing. or the night the mother decided to get completely trashed and walk down the high way in the middle of the night with the two kids. why werent they arrested then or the kids taken away at that time is my question. thank goodness to neighbors and passerbys that have the guts to call them in. those kids deserve better.
