LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Lawrenceville man is behind bars, charged with vehicular homicide and DUI after police say he hit and killed a young mother.

Lawrenceville police say 39 year old Constantin Toncz hit 25 year old Sabrina Stanek as she was standing in her front yard near the street Sunday.

Stanek's roomate told 11Alive's Jaye Watson the young mother was upset that Toncz was speeding up and down the street in his red truck. The roomate said Stanek was going to flag the driver down to show him down.

Instead, the driver apparently hit the pickup truck she was standing behind, killing her instantly.

Police say Toncz fled the scene and was found at his ex-wife's house down the street from the accident.

Toncz is behind held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

Sabrina Stanek, a 25-year-old mother of two young children, was killed by a drunk driver Sunday night as she tried to flag him down to ask him to drive more slowly on Belmont Lane in Lawrenceville.

According to investigative reports, as Sabrina Stanek went to the curb to get the driver's attention, the driver lost control, veered off the road, hit Stanek, and she was crushed between the driver's pickup truck and a stationary vehicle.

"...Toncz has been jailed in Gwinnett County three other times since 1993, mostly on misdemeanor charges. However, jail records show that he was arrested in January on a felony theft by conversion charge, and was out of jail on bond when the accident occurred."...
