A young mother was jailed Monday, accused of severely injuring her 2-year-old boy.
Saturday afternoon, police responded to the Austin Suites Hotel off I-35 in reference to the injured child. That's where police say Toni Renee Martinez, 19, lived with her son.
Police say Martinez changed her story about what happened to the child.
According to a police report, she initially told police the child had "fallen off the bath tub and hit his head on the floor."
The boy was taken by ambulance to Dell Children's Medical Center. Doctors there said the child suffered "subdural hematoma" -- severe head trauma -- and that the injuries did not appear to be accidental.
Martinez then confessed to police that her son had "urinated in his underwear, while staring at her in a defiant manner."
The affidavit shows, that she picked him up and began to "shake him." She said she "hit her son on the side of the head" and "threw her son into the bathtub."
Doctors say if the 2-year-old boy survives, he will likely suffer permanent brain damage. The boy is in stable, but serious condition. Doctors had to remove part of his skull to allow room for the brain to swell.
