Did anyone else hear about the rumors of Universal Studios backing away from their HD-DVD exclusivity? They are the only major studio which receives compensation from HD-DVD to not release movies to Blu-Ray. I hear that they are going neutral, to release titles to both formats.

If so, it would mean that the consumers get a larger hand in deciding the merits of the two formats, and we might get a resolution to the mess. The only reason I bring this up in here is Peter Moore's comments on an eventual Blu-Ray player for the 360, which will be the weirdest gaming news of all time.

Of course, if WalMart ever gets that $200 HD-DVD player they were rumored to be getting, then Blu-Ray will die an immediate death.

Thoughts?

I hadn't heard of any of this. I don't follow this situation much though. When I heard that the PS3 would use Blu-Ray I knew that it would most likely win the war. Personally, I think studios should be releasing movies on both formats. Let the consumer pick which medium they think is best.

If the 360 gets a blu-ray player... Well... I don't even know. That's kind of like Microsoft saying "We fucked up, Blu-Ray is better". Sony could make some good money off of that though. Very strange.

Even if WalMart does get $200 HD-DVD players, I will be waiting to see what happens. I don't want to be like those folks that had BetaMax or Laser-Disc.
