For a second day, federal hazmat investigators returned to a local home where a substantial amount of ricin-like substance was found. A woman called police after finding the substance inside her husband's office. That man, Jeffrey Marble, is under police watch at the Providence Regional Medical Center. His injuries and conditions have not been made public due to privacy laws.
Meanwhile, hazmat crews are decontaminating the couple's home where a red sign hangs, warning: "Illegal hazardous substances manufacturing or storage site."
Police first discovered the substance after responding to a domestic violence call at the home on Monday.
That's when officers arrived to find a woman bleeding on her front lawn. Medics treated the woman and her husband was rushed to the hospital for tests.
"He just was lethargic at the time and not really able to communicate to us very well," said Sgt. Robert Goetz.
When the wife returned home on Wednesday, she discovered a strange substance in her husband's office and called police, who then contacted the FBI.
Federal investigators are testing the found substance to determine whether it is, in fact, ricin, but FBI spokesperson Robbie Burroughs said agents found "contributing information that also led us to believe even more that it probably was."
Hazmat crews and toxics specialists combed through the Marbles' home last night, and found suspicious items inside his office, including seeds, powder and lye.

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said Jeffrey Marble's wife, Karen Marble, was badly beaten on Monday. And, the neighbor said, there were other warning signs.
"Her friend - one of her friends - said, 'There's something wrong with that house. She's getting sick. There is some sort of syndrome that she's had,'" the neighbor said.
According to the protection order filed on Wednesday, Karen Marble said her husband beat her with a dumbbell, hitting her on the head and all over her body. She added, "possible poisoning with... eye drops and Ricinus communis and lye and rat bait," the document said.

Marble has been told he is under arrest for investigation of domestic violence, and will be jailed once he recovers.

I wonder if he took some ricin himself?
