Florida has installed 10-20-Life as a gun deterrent. Have a gun during the commission of a crime there is a 10 year minimum mandatory sentence. Fire a gun during the commission of a crime there is a 20 year minimum sentence. Shoot a person during the course of a crime there is a 25 year to Life minimum sentence.
TAMPA -- A Tampa teen was arrested after he robbed a man and fired several rounds from a handgun in downtown Tampa early this morning, according to the Tampa Police Department.
No one was hurt, and after a short foot chase, Jareen Antonio Roach, 19, of 7110 N 50th St. in Tampa, was arrested, according to an arrest affidavit.
Here's what the Tampa Police Department said happened at about 12:50 this morning:
A man was looking for something in his vehicle near the intersection of Pierce and Whiting streets when Roach grabbed him from behind. Roach pointed a gun at the man and said "give me all your stuff." He took a gold chain, $1,300 and car keys. He then fled north.
The man called the police, and officers chased Roach on foot. He was caught just minutes later near the intersection of Twiggs and Jefferson streets.
Roach was charged with armed robbery with a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm and discharging a firearm in public.
He was booked into the Orient Road Jail and is being held without bond.
