Craig, 45, faces child abuse charges after Dade City Police Department officials say a 2 1/2 month-old infant placed in his care suffered multiple strikes to the face. The case is still under investigation.
The Dade City Police Department said Rachel Nagy and Joseph Yarborough left their son with their neighbor, Craig, about 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Later Saturday, the infant was brought to Pasco Regional Medical Center. It's not clear who brought the child in, but according to officials, Craig claimed the boy fell and hit his head on a door.
"There's a possibility he was drinking while he was watching the child," said police Capt. David Duff.
The boy was sent to the pediatric unit at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa for treatment. A doctor there ruled the infant was "clearly a victim of physical abuse," according to the police report.
Craig was arrested at his home Tuesday night. He remained at the Land O'Lakes jail Wednesday in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Officials say Craig told them he never hit the child, but may have left fingerprints on the baby's face when he inspected the bruising left by the door.
The child is recovering.
"He's just got some bruising," Duff said. "There's no broken bones. No brain damage."http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/article1004996.ece

I bet they do a better job of screening care givers from now on.
