WALLA WALLA -- City police have arrested a man believed to have attempted to lure a youth, but detectives stressed this is likely not the same person who has made several attempts at luring children from a white vehicle this month.

On Thursday about 10 p.m., authorities arrested Jon Paul Saunders, 24, on suspicion of luring and second-degree attempted kidnapping. Saunders was booked into the County Jail.

Police made the arrest following a report by a 14-year-old girl that she had been approached and grabbed by a man.

The girl was riding her bicycle on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of University Street when a man blocked her path and started talking to her, according to a report.

The girl said the man asked if she wanted to "have some fun," then grabbed her hand and started to pull her toward a nearby home. She was able to free herself and get away when the man dropped his cell phone and bent down to pick it up.

With her help, police found Saunders at the residence that she said she was being dragged toward, at 1344 University St., and the arrest was made.

Detective Matt Wood said his agency continues to look for a man who has made several luring attempts on children in the past couple of weeks. Wood said Saunders is not believed to be connected to those cases because he has unique and visible tattoos that had not been described by witnesses in any of the other luring reports.

A man accused of luring and trying to kidnap a 14-year-old girl in May has been cleared of the charges after authorities determined the alleged victim in the case lied.

Jon P. Saunders, 25, had been suspected of grabbing and pulling at the girl outside his residence. But the charges of luring and second-degree attempted kidnapping were dismissed Thursday by Walla Walla County Superior Court Commissioner Scott Wolfram at the request of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Police Detective Marlon Calton told the Union-Bulletin Monday that officers interviewed a neighbor who witnessed the alleged incident. The witness saw the girl speak with someone, but never saw the girl get off her bike. The girl then rode away, Calton said.

When police confronted the girl with this information, she admitted she initially lied about the attempted kidnapping, explaining she was afraid she'd get in trouble if her mother found out she was talking to a stranger.

Saunders was arrested the evening of the girl's report, but was released on bail June 2.

He added that authorities haven't decided whether to pursue action against the girl for filing a false report.http://union-bulletin.com/articles/2009/07/21/local_news/090721local03luringdismissed.txt

Well, depending on what they were talking about, he might not have had any need to be arrested. If he wanted her back at his place, maybe, but we have no reason to believe that.

This little girl is a twit, and yeah, I do think charges should be pressed against her. That way, she realizes there are big girl consequences to big girl actions. You can't just call the cops on somebody because you are afraid of getting in trouble. Cops have better things to do than go around arresting innocent men.
