Ouachita Parish deputies say in two affidavits that a woman charged with deserting her two children knew their biological father was abusing them, but did not remove them from his care or report the abuse.
The biological father was also arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to a juvenile.
An arrest affidavit for Lori Diane Landry, 33, of 700 Evergreen, Lot 29, West Monroe, states deputies investigated a report of child abuse in which Landry’s 8-year-old son had severe bruising on his leg and buttocks.
The affidavit states that three weeks ago Landry took her son and 9-year-old daughter to live with their biological father, who had not seen the children in about six years and was previously living out of state.
During the three-week period the children “were being constantly abused,” the affidavit states, and Landry saw them four to five times during that period.
“She saw the children two days ago and did not report the abuse after seeing the bruising because she thought” there was a warrant for her.
“She removed the children on Wednesday and stayed with them in a trailer with seven men who were strangers to the children,” the affidavit states. “ Thursday morning she left the children with a friend with no timetable in which she would return to get them.”
After receiving a report of child abuse, deputies notified child protective services and the children were placed with a family member.

The arrest affidavit for Bryan Landry states the children told deputies he “whooped” the 8-year-old because the boy accidentally defecated in the bath tub and that he used a wooden paddle and “used all his strength” to strike the child 12 times, leaving large bruises across both buttocks and the back of the boy’s right leg.
“The arrestee also flew into a rage, breaking several windows in the trailer (and) then pushed the 9-year-old girl into the glass, telling her that he would ‘beat her to death’ if she moved,” the affidavit states.
Deputies noted in the affidavit the girl had several oblong healing cuts and scars to the soles of her feet and that the children noted they were afraid of Bryan Landry.
