A 40-year-old Gerlach man is behind bars accused of getting grossly intoxicated at a casino bar while his toddler wandered the hotel halls frantically, yelling for help.
Reno police said the frightened boy ventured into the hall looking for his father, Curtis Tyler, who later returned to their room to pass out after looking up information on his computer about female escorts.
Authorities said Tyler wasn’t aware his son was missing when he returned to the room. Stuffed animals were left on top of the child’s bed.
The 4-year-old boy was taken into custody Thursday morning by social workers who were contacting his mother.
The incident occurred about 4:40 a.m., Thursday, at Circus Circus Hotel and Casino. Hotel security and police helped find the boy’s room. Initially, the boy was so scared he could not tell them his last name or his father’s name. When the child later said his father’s name was “Curtis” security found his room.
When they entered, Tyler was passed out and could not be woken. Paramedics were called to the scene.
Police said the room had a strong odor of alcohol and liquor bottles were strewn from the bathroom to the night stand.
After Tyler was roused, he told police he had dropped his wife and other child off at the airport and was staying the night in Reno. He said he went to the bar around 2 a.m. after his son went to sleep, and came back around 4:30 a.m. Tyler blamed his drinking on having rough times due to his chronic unemployment.http://www.rgj.com/article/20090522/NEWS01/90522027/1321/news
