Martin L Gonzalez, 241 Shelly Drive, was charged Friday with a felony count of injury by negligent use of a dangerous weapon, as well as misdemeanor charges of battery and disorderly conduct. He is being charged as a repeat offender.
Police say the man's older brother was upset on Wednesday night about not getting $20 he was supposed to get from a neighbor for cutting the lawn.
Gonzalez pulled out a decorative sword as he told his brother "don't worry about your money," according to police. He then began swinging the sword at his brother in a jabbing motion, accused him of owing others money and threatened to kill him.
When the brother tried to escape through the back door, Gonzalez stabbed him in the lower back, police say. He eventually dropped the sword and also punched his brother twice in the face.
The charges carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison and two years extended supervision.
