Nothing was taken from the house. There was no sign of forced entry. Two young children, said to be autistic, were not harmed. Neighbors did not see or hear anything unusual, and dogs apparently did not bark.
Yet the young wife and mother of two was killed sometime overnight Thursday, into Friday morning.
She was found inside her home in West Valley City.
On Thursday night, she apparently gave the kids a bath and put them to sleep. West Valley City police spokesman Captain Tom McLachlan said that may have occurred by 9pm.
Friday morning the victim's husband, a nurse who works overnight at LDS Hospital, told police he arrived home to find his wife dead. She had head trauma, including wounds to her face. Police will not detail how she received those wounds.
The husband was taken for questioning by police, but had been released by Friday evening.
Police said they do not have suspects, but anyone who had access to the home would be considered "persons of interest." Investigators were working to establish how many people that might be. Captain McLachlan did not think there is reason for people living nearby to be alarmed, calling the killing an "isolated" event.http://www.kutv.com/mostpopular/story/Young-Mother-May-Have-Been-Murdered/ziff13mBw0iVQYC2j24g7g.cspx
A man found his wife dead in her bedroom with obvious trauma to her head and face, after he returned home from working a night shift.
The couple's 4-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son were home and sleeping during the woman's "violent death," West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan said.
Investigators ruled out the possibility of a suicide by mid-Friday, and later announced that the death of Kimberly Hain, 33, is considered a homicide.
There was no indication of a heavy struggle, and the house "wasn't in disarray," McLachlan said. Nothing appeared to be missing, and there were no obvious signs of a burglary.
Hain was "lightly clothed" when police found her, and McLachlan said there was no obvious evidence of a sexual assault.
A preliminary autopsy report, which will be issued sometime Saturday, is expected to establish if she was shot or exactly how she died.
Hain had worked in the emergency room of Primary Children's Medical Center for the past 10 years, according to the hospital.
Her husband, Douglas Hain Jr., works graveyard shifts at a local hospital and apparently arrived home about 8:20 a.m. He reportedly found his wife in the bedroom.
According to McLachlan, crime-scene detectives went "over all the entrances with a fine-tooth comb" and indicated that so far, they had no reason to believe someone had forced entry into the home.
"There's just no evidence of that," he said, noting that officers have questioned many people whom they believe "had some kind of access (to the home)."

How many people generally have access to a place where they don't live? My husband and I are it for our home. Not even his parents have keys.

it depends, i guess. my parents (now just my mom) has a key to our house, and one housecleaning service i fired years ago. i also lend the key to my pet/plantsitter periodically.. so the door key is really not tightly controlled. someone could theoretically come in while we're away and take our stuff, which would suck, but our stuff is crappy and not really worth stealing or losing sleep over.
our children, and our lives, however, are what is truly valuable to us. when we are home, we use an alarm system and deadbolts on all the doors, and windows are locked.
in this case, in the absence of sexual assault or burglary, and kids left unharmed, i keep going back to hubby. how many cases have we seen where the spouse is at work, uses work as an alibi, but turns out they manage to slip away just long enough to do the deed, or perhaps hire someone else to do it?
RIP Kimberly.

The dogs didn't bark... that anyone heard. I'm pretty immune to the barks around here. After 10:00 at night, I doubt I would notice someone getting beaten to death inside my neighbor's house. Unless I just happened to be looking out, I wouldn't even notice if someone walked into their home.
The "clues" to me are that nothing was disturbed. It had to be late as she had to be sleeping. It's like whoever it was just waltzed into the house, right into her room, and started beating on her in bed. Didn't seem to wake the kids. And then just snuck back out. It had to be a targeted attack.
I suspect hubby. If not him, then some stalker she acquired. She was going to nursing school. Maybe she caught the eye of some weirdo. But most likely seems the husband.

sure, could be a stalker, but how could a stalker gain unforced entrance?
i agree with the dog barking thing, i don't listen for other people's dogs and my windows are shut at night, but i'm assuming the kids didn't hear the dog either, since they didn't wake.

damn i did huh,, i wanted to be oppositional, but seriously. My dog doesn't let my neighbors be immuned, the one next door throws out a fire cracker and my dog just shuts the fuck up.
If he got off work at 8am then he most likely went to work at 12am, kids in bed at 9 or 10..... he had plenty of time to off her and then go to work. I dunno, I couldn't kill a person and then go do a normal days work myself, but alot of the freaks we get on here could eat dinner while killing someone....

Arrest Made
WEST VALLEY CITY — An 18-year-old next-door neighbor of a slain mother of two was arrested late Tuesday for investigation of homicide.
West Valley police late Tuesday announced the arrest of Marty Vuksinick in connection with the death of 33-year-old Kim Hain. Police Capt. Tom McLachlan declined to talk about a possible motive Tuesday night, saying that the investigation was ongoing.

OMG! Those poor kids!
From the article UCat posted above:
Police say she was found by her two children, a 6-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy.
"They didn't tell anyone, didn't notify anyone. They waited for their dad to come home," McLachlan said.
They're both autistic, so I'm not surprised that neither one had the ability to get help, but the idea of those two kids sitting at home with their mother's bludgeoned body, terrified and waiting anxiously for their dad to get home and help them, is almost more than I can take.

From UCat's link:
On Monday, Kim Hain's neighbors held a barbecue in her honor. The Deseret News talked to several neighbors who attended the event, including Vuksinick.
"It still doesn't seem real," he told the News Monday. "Nothing (like this) has ever happened in this neighborhood."
Vuksinick also told reporters one of the nearby neighbors had been out working in his yard Monday when he discovered a set of keys, which sent police scurrying back to the home for more investigation. Vuksinick said his mother, Cheryl, was Kim Hain's best friend and the first person to talk with husband Pat Hain after he came out of the house with the kids.
Ballsy little bastard, isn't he?

A teenager accused of beating and strangling a mother of two to death had ingested cocaine prior to the crime, according to West Valley police.
Marty Vuksinick, 18, was arrested late Tuesday in connection with the death of Kim Hain, 33. Vuksinick was Hain's next-door neighbor, and his mother was reportedly one of Hain's closest friends.
A theft that went wrong may have been the motive behind the slaying.
Vuksinick was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail early Wednesday for investigation of one count of murder and one count of burglary.
Police say Vuksinick entered the Hains' house, near 6600 W. Fanfare Court (3500 South), through an unlocked door. He admitted to police he went into the house without the permission of the family "to commit a theft," according to jail documents.
While inside, Vuksinick encountered Hain and "struck her in the head with his fist," jail documents stated. He then "retrieved a baseball bat and struck her in the head multiple times," jail records state.
At Cyprus High School, 8623 W. 3000 South, reaction among students was shock, but their views of Vuksinick were mixed.
Vuksinick was a student at Cyprus during his sophomore and junior years, said Principal John Welburn. He attended school during his senior year until January, when he transferred to a different school for an unknown reason.
In February, Provo Canyon School, a youth treatment center in Orem, requested Vuksinick's transcripts, according to the Granite School District.
On its Web site, Provo Canyon bills itself as "… providing mental health care for youth ages 12-17 for nearly 40 years. It is one of the nation's largest and most experienced treatment facilities for youth."
Welburn said Vuksinick was an average student at Cyprus — not one who had the profile of a student body officer, but not one who got into a lot of trouble, either.
However, the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday that the school resource deputy had numerous dealing with Vuksinick, although none of those encounters rose to the level of criminal charges being filed.
A spokeswoman for the Matheson Courthouse said Vuksinick had no criminal history in Utah's 3rd District Juvenile Court.
Several students told the Deseret News they either suspected or knew Vuksinick had a substance abuse problem. Some commented that he had an anger-management problem and often would punch lockers. Other students, however, said Vuksinick was quiet and kept to himself.
"He was always really nice," said Candace Reynolds. "I think it's really sad. He was misunderstood."
"It's shocking. I didn't think he'd do something like this," added student Scott Labrum. "He's not a bad kid. For him to do something like this, he must have been under the influence. I don't think he'd do that sober at all."
Vuksinick described Kim Hain as smart, someone who loved hiking and camping and was "pretty strong and pretty athletic." He even joked that she was strong enough to "take him."
"She never had an enemy in the world," he told the News on Monday. "Why her? It's so shocking."

How truly awful for these poor children. That's gotta be rather traumatizing. Thank God they have a suspect in custody, while they'll never get her back, at least they won't spend the rest of their lives wondering who did this to her. And her husband won't spend the rest of his life under suspicion.

http://i40.tinypic.com/33ccg2p.jpgThe Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against the 18-year-old accused of beating a West Valley mother to death.
Martin Vuksinick is charged with Aggravated Murder, Aggravated Burglary, and Obstruction of Justice.
Investigators arrested Vuksinick last week, several days after his neighbor, 33-year-old Kimberly Hain was found beaten to death in her home.
Authorities say Vuksinick may have been high on cocaine when he tried to burglarize Hain's home. Police believe when he ran into Hain, he beat her to death with his fists and a baseball bat.
[...]
Police say they noticed Vuksinick acting strangely around the crime scene and during an interview with officers, he allegedly confessed to the crime. Officers also say Vuksinick led them to the murder weapon.
If convicted, Vuksinick faces up to life in prison. Prosecutors say it is still possible that they could seek the death penalty in this case.http://www.kutv.com/content/news/local/story/Suspect-Accused-of-Killing-Young-Mother-Charged/zib8EgL0ikaFqnP9AFM1PA.cspx
