They're not the Golden girls, but they're 5 women old enough to be grandmothers, busted during a drug raid at a Live Oak retirement home.

They range in ages 44 to 63, but the arrest doesn't surprise anyone living nearby. It's the talk of the retirement community.

"We searched the place and found several meth pipes, several hypodermic needles, a small amount of marijuana and a small amount of meth," said Mike Hudson, Calif. Dept. of Justice Drug Task Force.

An operative went to the retirement home and bought drugs from the women. That's when the task force moved in a served a search warrant.

"That's when it really hit home…'we just bought drugs from somebody's grandmother'," said Hudson.

"No, no methamphetamine sold out of here,"

We talked to several of the women who were later cited and released.

"They're crazier than heck. They didn't find nothing in my house," said Connie Barnes, whose home was searched.

Connie Barnes says it's here 28 grandkids coming and going. She also claims no one is selling drugs.

When asked if she ever used meth, Connie answered: "I tried it once, but didn't like it."

When asked if the other women in the house use meth, Connie replied: "No, they smoke pot."

Kim Connoly says her drug use is strictly medicinal.

"…my weed pipe was right there in my satchel with my medicine," said Kim.

Connie showed us around her apartment. Hidden in the vacuum is where, officers say, they found a syringes, meth pipe.

She says the vacuum belonged to her dead son who was a drug addict.

Officers say they don't want the women to go to jail; they want them to get treatment.

Unless she's keeping them in there as a memento along with his ashes, I don't think her story would hold water.

Authorities said only one of the women is a legal resident of the 50-unit retirement community.

Another resident was arrested in March after police found meth hidden inside a cane. Jose Anguiano pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and is scheduled for sentencing Tuesday.
