KISSIMMEEE - A neighbors' dispute escalated into "war" this week when a man crashed his car into the house next door.
By the time police arrived Thursday afternoon, the angry neighbor was sitting outside the wreckage, armed with a hatchet and bleeding from a brawl with the homeowner he attacked.
"He wanted war, so I gave it to him," Lugene L. Akins told police, explaining that "he was tired of being made fun of, so he wanted to show what a real war looked like."
Akins, who first claimed to be from Iraq, is well known to police in Kissimeee.
"We have history with this gentleman," said police spokeswoman Stacie Miller, who declined to discuss several of Akins' arrests dating back to 1992 because they involved medical matters.
When the attack began, Corey Hill was asleep in the living room of his house on Teresa Drive. The sound of the car breaking through a wall jolted him awake, according to a report released Friday.
Hearing his name being screamed, Hill said he was tackled moments later by Akins. Picking up a chair, Hill knocked down his attacker and then threw him against a TV in the living room, the report stated.
The commotion woke Hill's brother, Shaun Dias, asleep in another room. Dias escaped from the house by climbing through a window while Hill forced Akins outdoors. Dias then restrained Hill until police arrived and arrested Akins, the report stated.
Hill, who could not be reached Friday, told police there had always been disputes between him and Akins.
Akins was arrested on felony charges of occupied burglary with a battery, and occupied burglary with a vehicle for using his 1992 Honda to break into the house. After being examined at a local hospital, Akins was booked without bail at the Osceola County Jail.
