BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A woman was shot Friday afternoon inside a beauty shop on East Washington Street. The accused gunman was captured a short time later.
The shooting happened shortly after 2pm at Hair Den, located at 1327 East Washington Street.
The victim, who witnesses say was shot several times, was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
A witness who was inside the beauty shop tells WAFB 9NEWS, the woman was inside the salon getting her hair styled when her boyfriend called her outside and the two began to argue.
The woman then ran back inside salon, the witness said.
The man then tried to get inside the salon but the door was locked. At that point, the witness says the man began firing shots at the door until he could get it opened.
He then reportedly began firing shots at his girlfriend. "He kept saying 'you don't love me, you don't love me," the witness said.
"He told us he was not going to hurt us," the witness said. "We all dropped to the floor."
The witness says the man then left the shop and returned to find the victim in the bathroom with the door locked. At that point, the witness says, the gunman began firing shots through the bathroom door.
He then left again.
Police say they captured the alleged shooter, 45-year-old James Edwards Starks, at a nearby cemetery.
Witnesses on the scene identified the victim as 43-year-old Tobetha Judson. She was transported to Baton Rouge General Mid-City.
