A Cumberland County woman will appear in court June 1 to answer charges of endangering her child after a dispute broke out and escalated to shots being fired during a cookout, according to arrest reports filed by the sheriff's department.
Melissa Lynn Redwine, 35, 1019 Bud Tanner Rd., is charged with reckless endangerment and child abuse and was placed under $4,500 bond.
Deputies were dispatched to 481 Norman Dr. around 10 p.m. May 14 on a report of a fight in progress with a shotgun and knife involved, according to Deputy Al Seitner's report.
When Seitner arrived on the scene he found William Howard, his brother, Richard and Richard's girlfriend, Melissa Redwine, and Brendan Allen VanLandingham present, along with Redwine's two young children.
The group was attending a cookout when a fight broke out between the two brothers. Witnesses said weapons were involved and that shots were fired from a shotgun in the presence of the two children.
When shots were fired, the children reportedly ran and hid under a back porch at the residence, and later were taken next door.
When deputies attempted to interview the mother, she was unable to tell officers where her children were. "She stated she did not know. Melissa did not have any concern for her children's safety," Seitner wrote in his report. The officer added that it appeared that the mom may have been under the influence.http://www.crossville-chronicle.com/local/local_story_141210851.html
