Murder victim Justin Cosby
Authorities arrested a Harlem man and are hunting two other suspects in the fatal shooting of a man in a Harvard University dorm.
Jabrai Jordan Copney, 20, turned himself in to Cambridge. Mass., police at about 7 p.m. Thursday and was charged with murder in the death of Justin Cosby, who was shot in the abdomen Monday in what Leone described as a "drug rip" attempt.
Cosby was found with about a pound of marijuana and about $1,000 when he collapsed outside the dormitory.
Copney also was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and possession of a firearm, District Attorney Gerry Leone said. He is to be arraigned Friday.
Cosby was hit by one of several shots fired in a basement common room at the Kirkland House dormitory on Harvard's Cambridge campus, Leone said.
Police are searching for two other suspects. They were not identified.
Cosby, who lived in Cambridge but did not attend the university, died Tuesday. He and Copney knew each other and were friends with two female Harvard students who have not been charged in the shooting.
The incident raised concerns about security at the university because neither Copney nor Cosby were affiliated with the campus, where students need a pass card to enter the dormitory.
Leone said earlier "there's no reason to believe" the killing was related to the knifepoint robbery of a student at another Harvard dormitory about six hours after the shooting.
The masked assailant in that crime stole the student's iPod music player and cash outside Adams House, university officials said.
