A Hamburg man was arraigned on a felony assault for allegedly seriously injuring a 22-month-old boy left in his care late last month, Hamburg police said Wednesday.
Derell Cobbs, 31, is accused of injuring the boy on April 25, after the mother left him with the suspect from 11:30 a. m. to 5:15 p. m., police said. When the mother returned home, she discovered the boy was listless and his arm immobile. The child, taken initially to Mercy Ambulatory Care Center, was transferred to Women&Children’s Hospital, where he was admitted with multiple injuries, including a broken clavicle and arm.
How the boy was injured was unclear.
Cobbs, who is not related to the child, had been living with the boy’s mother and her three children for about three months, police said.
Cobbs also was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. He was jailed in lieu of on $25,000 bail pending a felony hearing Friday.
