A woman was charged with three counts of aggravated arson Friday after allegedly starting the Thursday afternoon blaze that displaced about 50 people in west suburban Cicero.
Chelise Hadden, 21, of 1930 S. Cicero Ave., allegedly lit her own home on fire because she was "angry with her boyfriend, who may have been having a relationship with her sister," Cicero spokesman Elio Montenegro said.
Hadden, who has no previous arrest record, was taken into custody Friday, Montenegro said. She is accused of setting fire to a dumpster in the back of the building, which started a blaze that left a police officer and firefighter injured.
The Red Cross of Greater Chicago said 50 people, including 35 children, were displaced by the blaze. The Red Cross provided assistance to 24 families with food, clothing and infant supplies, spokeswoman Maria Corral said.
The fire started in the rear of the 24-unit brick building about 2:45 p.m. Thursday and spread to the building, Cicero Fire Marshal George Gregory said Friday morning.
The blaze burned in two apartments and left all other units with smoke and water damage, Gregory said.
A Cicero firefighter suffered a separated shoulder battling the blaze and a Cicero police officer, who was first on the scene, suffered smoke inhalation while rescuing a tenant, Cicero town spokesman Eric Kohn said.
The police officer was taken to Oak Park Hospital, according to Kohn, who said a building tenant was also treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.
Gregory said the firefighter was treated and released from Mount Sinai Hospital.
All other residents were safely evacuated, Kohn said.
The fire was contained by 3:45 p.m., according to Kohn, though fire crews stayed on the scene well into the evening.
Hadden is slated to appear in bond court Monday.

Damn, don't destroy your own belongings to get back at your boyfriend, you go destroy his fucking belongings. Now you have to pay for what you have done.
I'm editing to say you also don't destroy or hurt other people or there belongings. Now look what you have done they are homeless you were selfish in your thinking and ought to be ashamed of yourself. No matter you will pay for what you have done.
