Police said 51-year-old Stewart Haven Brown was charged Wednesday with retail theft.

Employees told police Brown had tucked the items under his shirt and attempted to leave the store when loss prevention officers detained him.

The deodorants were valued at $8.64. Brown was being held on $2,500 bail for the theft charge, plus $1,013 for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving under the influence.

A bed, a shower, basic personal hygiene items...maybe it didn't turn out so badly for him after all. Maybe he should thank the "loss prevention officers"!

what the article doesnt say is his prior convictions turning this otherwise NOT chargeable offense (on the basis of de minimus value) into a not only filed charge, but likely one that will carry a hefty sentence.
