A woman has been arrested after allegedly luring her landlord to her Near-Westside residence and stabbing him in an attempt to avoid eviction, police said.
Candance Macy, 27, was arrested Friday night in connection with the attack on Kenneth Reading, 59, about 12:45 p.m. Monday at 326 Roena St.
Indianapolis police spokesman Paul Thompson said detectives determined that Macy "lured Reading to the residence with the intent to kill him.'' Macy initially told police that she acted in self-defense after Reading attacked her.
"The motive for the stabbing was that Macy feared eviction and possible prosecution from Reading of a financial crime,'' Thompson said in a news release. "No assault on Macy had taken place.
"It is believed that Macy told Reading that she had lost a ring behind a stove in the kitchen and that she had asked him to retrieve it. When he stooped down to look for the ring, Macy allegedly stabbed him in the back at least four times and several more times on other parts of his body.''
Macy faces a charge of attempted murder. Reading was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, and reported in serious condition.
