WEAVERVILLE – A Weaverville man was charged with cutting his grandchild with a broken bottle.
James Weston, 49, was charged Friday with child abuse and assault inflicting serious injury, according to an arrest report. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Weston used a broken bottle to cut his grandchild on the palm, the report says. Stiches were needed to close the wound. The child was under 16 years of age.
Weston was held under a $400 bond.
