A man abandoned a baby in a livery cab in Queens, police said. The cab picked up the man and the 6-month old girl in Jackson Heights. The man told the driver he needed to make a phone call and never came back.

The driver took the baby to a Corona firehouse after 10 a.m.

A Fire Department spokesman said firefighters at Fire Engine Co. 289 "had a nice time holding her," while waiting for emergency medical service personnel and police to arrive.

The child appeared to be about six or seven months old and in good health, said a spokeswoman for St. John's Hospital in Queens, where she was taken. The Taxi and Limousine Commission, which regulates livery taxis, identified the driver as Klever Sailema, who drives a car affiliated with Tel-A-Car of New York in Astoria, Queens.

Well, at least the guy did the right thing.....When she got to be more than he could handle, he gave her away instead of beating her to death.....

I love the mental picture I get when I imagine a lot of firefighters sitting around coddling a baby.

NEW YORK — A livery cab driver who claimed that a stranger abandoned a baby in his car earlier this week was arrested Saturday and charged with making the tale up.

Police said the driver, Klever Sailema, was part of a scheme by an overwhelmed Bronx family to abandon the child, who had been born to a teenage girl.

The girl's mother has been identified, police said. A man and a woman who were also involved in the abandonment have also been arrested, police said.

Sailema dropped the baby off at a Queens fire station Thursday after claiming that the child, who was about 6 months old, had been left in his car.

The cabbie told investigators his fare was a nervous-looking man who had gotten in carrying the baby and a bag with diapers and clothing. He said the man then asked the driver to pull over so he could make a phone call, and walked off.

Police now say that Sailema was friendly with the baby's family and had agreed to help them turn the child over to the city. He was charged with filing a false report and endangering the welfare of a child.

A woman also involved in the plot, Maria Siavichay, 21, of the Bronx, was charged with endangering the welfare of the child. Police said a 24-year-old Bronx man, Marcelo Vinansaca, was charged with obstructing the investigation by giving false information to detectives.

A two-year manhunt in a case that captivated the city ended Thursday when cops busted a young man who heartlessly abandoned the baby he had fathered with a 14-year-old girl.

Carlos Cardenas, 29, fled the city in February 2008 after scheming with crooked cabbie Klever Sailema to ditch his doe-eyed baby girl at a Queens firehouse.

The sad fate of little Daniella, then just 6 months old, tugged at the heartstrings of millions when her picture ran on the front page of the Daily News.
[...]

"We've been after him for two years," a police source said. "He kept running, and we just kept missing him."

Cardenas, who has been charged with rape for fathering Daniella with a teenage runaway, recently slipped back into Manhattan, where he was hiding out in Washington Heights and living under the alias Fabiano Castillo.

After detectives learned the foolish fugitive had returned to the city, they collared him on the street, outside his pad, yesterday afternoon, the sources said.

Cardenas hatched his cowardly plan with Sailema - who was dating Cardenas' sister - after whining to his super about how Daniella's mother had left him alone with the baby.

Yesterday, Cardenas chalked his arrest up to "bad luck" as detectives led him out of the NYPD's Bronx special victims unit.

Sailema was briefly hailed as a hero before he was arrested after admitting to police that his entire story was a lie. He was charged, but the case was dismissed.

Days after Sailema owned up to his shame, Daniella and her mom were sent back to the mother's home in Maryland, where both were in the care of the state's Department of Social Services.

In September 2009, Sailema was sentenced to 5-1/2 years for attempted rape.

The 2009 case against not-so-Klever:

Klever Sailema is being hunted by cops after a 23-year-old woman reported he picked her up in Astoria on Sunday, drove her to another spot in Queens and attacked her.

The victim had been drinking at a bar and passed out in the livery cab.

"She kinda wakes up and finds him on top of her," a police source said, adding that her pants were pulled down. "She fought him off and got away."

She hailed a second cab, which took her home. She then called police and went to a hospital.http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2009/03/05/2009-03-05_from_hero_to_liar_to_perv_cabbie_klever_.html

If I read that correctly, she's living with her breeder in Maryland. Supposedly under the eye of Social Services. She was a little doll, for sure. How could so many adults around her be so stupid? I hope her breeder got her head on straight and is taking good care of that little love. And I hope that Social Services keeps her under their eye for a long time to come.
