A wild scene in Norfolk ended with a woman behind bars, facing a long list of charges.

Police told WAVY.com it all started Sunday in a Norfolk parking lot. Jennifer Jones is accused of stealing another woman's purse.

The victim, Jeanette Balazsi, told WAVY.com she refused to let the suspect get away. So she jumped on the hood of the suspect's car, but the woman drove off anyway. Balazsi says she eventually jumped off the car, about a half mile later.

"I knew standing in front of the car would be somewhat dangerous, but I didn't feel like I had time to get over to her driver's door and the Food Lion Guy was trying to get the purse from her, so I thought, if I just stay here, she can't go anywhere. When she started to go...I just didn't feel like I could get out of the way, so I just kind of went on the hood," Balazsi said.

Police eventually caught up with the suspect and arrested her. Balazsi was not seriously hurt.

Police charged the suspect, Jennifer Jones, with a number of counts including Theft, DUI, Child Abuse and Neglect, Eluding Police and Hit and Run.http://www.wavy.com/dpp/news/local_wavy_hitandrun_purse_theft_20090505

She must have had kids in her car. If she kept going, probably could have added a murder charge of some sort.

Bravo. That is one long list of charges for starting out as a purse snatch.

[...] Police say the driver of the car was 32-year-old Jennifer Jones. Speaking only to WAVY.com, Jeanette says Jones swerved onto Meadowlake Drive about a quarter mile away from Food Lion.

"At that point I thought, I need to get off now, so I swung my feet around."

Jeanette jumped from the car and onto the sidewalk. Luckily she suffered only scratches.

"A guy on a Harley slowed down and pulled down and said are you okay? and I said 'yes, follow that lady,'" says Jeanette.

He followed Jones until police say she hit two cars and then crashed on Chesapeake Boulevard. When police arrested her, they say she was on drunk and had Jeanette's wallet. Even more disturbing, police say Jones had a one year-old in the back seat for the entire terrifying drive.

"She's put herself in a place where she has several charges against her now and I hope she stays in jail for a long time," says Jeanette.

There is always more than meets the eye with these type of stories, I am Jennifers husband and I am in no way excusing what she has done and I am so sorry that the victims went through what they did. Jennifer has been trying to get help for her problems for 2 months now and everytime that she tried people ignored her and shunned her. Maybe if the city of norfolk would have not ignored her then this could have all been avoided. Once again, I am not excusing what she has done, but the Jennifer that I married has two beautiful children and a loving husband. The problem is that addiction can in some cases be stronger than the person.

Whatever information that the news had was wrong, the child in the back seat was not hers, it was her sisters, and her sister was in the car with her. She of course hasnt been charged because she is blaming everything on Jennifer, yet those of us who know the story wonder why, when she is just as guilty, why is she not behind bars??? Jennifer and her sister both need to be looked at not just Jennifer.

As always, there is someone making excuses. How is it the City of Norfolk's problem that you're wife is psycho? That poor child. So what that the baby isn't yours!! There was a freaking baby in the car! You're a loon for trying to justify her atrocious behavior. The fact that her sister was not charged has nothing to with the fact that she did what she did. You're the man in the family, and you're woman is hot mess. Instead of passing tyhe blame, be a man! It's your responsibility to get her fixed. NOT THE CITY'S!! Women like this make me ill.
