A man Edmond police said has been lurking around city parks has been arrested on a complaint of lewd acts with a minor.
Erik Michael Rutledge, 21, of Edmond is accused of fondling a 14-year-old boy, said Glynda Chu, Edmond police spokeswoman. Rutledge was in the Oklahoma County jail Friday afternoon. Bail was $15,000.
The alleged sexual assault occurred at 8:30 p.m. April 18 in the parking lot of Cheyenne Middle School, 1271 W Covell Road, police said. Police weren’t notified until Sunday, after the boy told his parents, Chu said.
The victim and a 16-year-old boy were with Rutledge earlier that night in Guthrie at Liberty Lake, police said. The older boy was dropped off before the younger boy was forced to remove his clothing and was assaulted, Chu said.
Police are concerned there may be other victims, Chu said.
"He had many contacts with young boys in city parks,” Chu said.
"He would minister to them, talking about God and Christianity to gain ... trust.”
Some of the contacts occurred at Mathis Skate Park in J.L. Mitch Park. Chu said police think Rutledge may have been texting the boys, trying to lure them into isolated areas around the parks.
