A man who was high on methamphetamine when his toddler climbed into the family car and died of heat exhaustion was sentenced Friday on charges of felony child endangerment.

Judge Bridgid McCann sentenced Jason Andrew Morris to a suspended six-year prison term, a year in county jail, and felony probation with several conditions attached. Morris, 25, of Hesperia, previously pleaded guilty to the felony child endangerment charge.

In June 2007, Morris, 25, was passed out from doing meth most of the night at his home in the 16400 block of Olive Street in Hesperia, records show. His 3-year-old Justin wandered out of the house and climbed into the family car.

Deputy District Attorney David Foy said that Morris admitted he “crashed” from the meth high and fell asleep around 10 a.m.

Morris said he didn’t wake up until his brother came by the house at about 3 p.m. and woke him up.

According to court records they began searching for the boy and found him dead in the front seat of their Saturn.

Temperatures that day hit nearly 100 degrees. When rescue personnel arrived, the temperature inside the car had soared to 175.

The toddler, who had been in the car for about five hours, died of third-degree burns.

The only thing I think of is WTF???? Given that sentence to work with, I am happy he's in county jail rather than prison. And I hope he royally screws up his probation within a day of his release and gets sent right back. Before, during, and after, that whole situation is pathetic.

Oh my gosh. I can't even begin to imagine how much this poor baby suffered.

I can't even begin to imagine why the judge let him off with such a light sentence. That kid really suffered.

They should make him work in a burn unit for a year. It's like a lifetime in Hell from what I understand.

I'm more than willing to help him violate his parole. I know you can make hash brownies, and millions of things with pot but how would one go about making meth treats? Meth frosted cupcakes? Meth glazed torte? Pissing positive is a parole violation and it'd be that much sweeter to do it w/o his knowledge.

That poor baby. It had to have been a horrible time for him.
