The getaway *sniggle* grocery getter
A Moline man was arrested for an armed robbery that lead to a police chase, and one of his passengers, police say, was his two year old daughter.
28-year old Titus Banta was arrested Friday and charged with several felonies, including armed robbery, eluding police, and child endangerment.
Here's what police say happened. Banta drove his wife and two year old daughter to the Lodge Hotel in Bettendorf just after midnight, and told his wife to ''stay in the car'' while he went inside.
Police say Banta robbed the hotel clerk at knifepoint, and took off with about 280 dollars in cash. A security guard followed him out to the parking lot. When police arrived, they saw his station wagon leaving the lot, and gave chase over the I-74 bridge.
A short time later, at the Avenue of the Cities exit, Banta gave up and pulled over. A police videotape taken from a Bettendorf squad car shows police make the arrest, with guns drawn.
His wife, initially handcuffed, but later questioned and released. Police say she didn't know a robbery was about to take place.
Police say Banta threw his sweatshirt and wads of cash out the window during the pursuit. Later, when he was taken into custody i n a Bettendorf squad car, police say he kicked out a window in the car.
The two year old is fine.
Banta's in the Rock Island County jail, and is expected to be extradited to Iowa.

BETTENDORF - On Friday, April 24, 2009 at 12:15 a.m., the Bettendorf Police responded to an armed robbery call at The Lodge Hotel, 900 Spruce Hills Drive. At that time information was received that the suspect displayed a knife during the robbery and took approximately $286.00. The suspect was chased by hotel security and seen leaving in a vehicle that was described and radioed out to nearby patrol units. Nearby marked patrol units located the described suspect vehicle exiting the parking lot at The Lodge with its headlights off and activated their emergency lights attempting to stop the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop so sirens were activated but the vehicle continued and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit did not exceed 25 mph above the speed limit so the decision was made to continue to pursue due to it being a forcible felony. The vehicle went west on Spruce Hills Drive and entered the I-74 EB on-ramp continuing south on I-74 heading into Moline, Illinois. During the pursuit the suspect threw out his black hooded sweatshirt, that he had been wearing during the robbery, along with the cash money that was taken, out the vehicle window. Additional units from Moline Police Department responded and assisted at which point the vehicle came to a stop after exiting onto the Avenue of the Cities in Moline, IL. The suspect was taken into custody at that time and it was discovered that his wife and two year daughter were also in the vehicle with him. After being secured and being placed in the rear seat of the Bettendorf patrol unit the suspect kicked out the door window of the patrol unit. The black hooded sweatshirt and $276 was recovered.
The suspect was identified as Titus L. Banta, age 28, from Moline, IL. He was arrested and eventually transported to the Rock Island County Jail and charged by Moline Police Department with Child Endangerment and Felony Criminal Damage to Government Property.
