I will be getting this one. AFTER I pick up The Police. I grabbed the Queens of the Stone Age one, but the guitar shit at the end of every song is insane. I fail them on Hard and Expert. :( Have not tried the drums on the songs yet, though.
And once again, I hear people making cracks about people playing these games thinking that they are better because they play real instruments. People, musicians, its a GAME. On occasion, I also am a space marine, a sword wielding knight and a space pilot...like the guitar, I have not tricked myself into thinking I could do any of those professions in real life.
It's a fun game. A fun party game. It's like taking your favorite song, and singing to it while playing air guitar...or air drums...Times 1000...with friends. So take your pretentious attitude and shove it up your ass. :) I know I put a smiley face at the end, but really, piss off.

Dammit. I'm gonna sell some plasma so I can go out and buy a system and Rockband. I'm sick of hearing how fun it is.

I'm more into the individual songs. I picked up "My Iron Lung", "Siva", "Number of the Beast", "We Care Alot", "Gimmie Three Steps", and "And Justice For All". I would love to see some more FNM and Radiohead. Really I love this game, even though Suffragrette City can eat a bullet. Damn I hate that fucking song on both hard and expert.

I remember thinking that I would be VERY selective on which songs I purchase. I think there is only 3 left on the store that I haven't bought yet. I like them all except for the Metallica songs. The drums on those songs are just stupid.
I want to see some videos of you guys playing the drums.

The song I hated most is the Molly Hatchet song, Flirtin' With Disaster. It doesn't help that I hate the song in general, but goddamn the guitar in that song was BRUTAL for me.

ha ha ha, no you don't:D
Yeah that solo in Flirting is a bitch. Between the Bowie and that Green Grass and High tides solo, that game is pretty fun and I can blast through most of it, but those 2 songs make me want to get violent.

Ok I'm definately not a gamer so please forgive my ignorance. I bought my youngest son Rock band and within 2 weeks he and his friends beat the game... WTF?! $179 for 2 weeks of gaming?! Now it sits in the corner collecting dust. Does my son not know something? What all this talk in this thread about NIN packs? Can one buy addictional songs or something for this game? I'm so confused! Btw, all my kids think that Rock band is too easy compared to Guitar hero. You don't even have to sing... just hum into the microphone and you can still win. lol

I have a hard time believing your kids beat the game (bass, guitar, drums and vocals) on extreme difficulty. I don't doubt it may be gathering dust, though.
But yes, you can buy new songs for the game. They sell them in packs of 3 or you can get individual songs if you like.
As far as being too easy, Guitar Hero only lets you play the guitar. Rock Band let's you play Guitar, sing or play the drums. Now, I cannot vouch for which is easier between the two games, as I own both of them, but Rock Band slays Guitar Hero 3 in every, single way as far as game mechanics and even the guitar itself. Besides, Rock Band has DRUMS!!!
If your kid is pulling this off:

I'd love to see it. Other wise, tell him Morbid said "Dust off them drums!"

LadyValkyrie, if your kids beat the game on Expert in two weeks, you need to get them to some band try-outs. My guess is they "beat" the game on Medium, or just played a little of each instrument.
It would take you several months to be able to beat the game on Expert on the drums alone. If you can play a song on Expert on the drums, you can play that same song on a real drum set. It takes months of practice to get that good.
And singing on Expert is hard, even for professional singers. Again, I suspect they have not ramped up the difficulty on the vocals.
As for the guitar, if they are Guitar Hero veterans, they could probably breeze through the guitar portion on Expert, but I doubt they are 5-starring the last groups of songs. I can barely get through some of them.
I do feel your pain, having spent that much money and watching the dust gather. I see a lot of kids these days that have so much to stimulate themselves with, that they can't stay devoted to a toy. I was a little guilty of that until I started paying for my own toys. Now I play with them until I'm sore.
Edit: Morbid... that N.I.B. video is SICK. What kills me is how good his "freeplay solos" sound.

Ok let me clarify... I have watched them play. They have not beat anything on the expert level... they have one level down, though. I'm just thinking that if they've only taken two weeks to get this far... man what a waste of money! Before I bought the game for them they often played Rock Band at their friend's house. So, by the time I bought it for them they already had a lot of experience. Oh and my kids are lucky, a couple of their friends actually play instruments for real. One of their friends play the drums for real. Another friend plays acoustic and electric guitar for real. These friends are the ones that have helped them beat the game as far as they have. And my oldest son is learning to play the acoustic guitar.
And I'm sorry but the "singing" on the levels below expert is not hard. I've seen it myself... all you have to do is hum in a lot of the songs and you can get it. Try it for yourself.
And yeah they are Guitar Hero veterans. They are averaging 50-60% on Expert level on Guitar Hero Games (I, II, & III)
I guess I'm going to try and encourage them to beat expert level and maybe I'll buy more songs for them. I just don't want to see this equipment go to waste.
Thanks for the advice!

Track Pack for the first week of March. Holy, fucking shit.
GRATEFUL DEAD!!!
Wooo-HOOO!
China Cat Sunflower
Casey Jones
Sugar Magnolia
Truckin'
Franklin’s Tower
I Need A Miracle
Each song is $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points)
Get all of them for $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points)
I am so fucking excited about this. Not because I am a Dead-Head (these are my favorite GD songs, though), but because I like the Southern Rock songs on guitar more than the metal. I want more Jazz songs, folk songs, and Latin songs. This pack is going to provide a much-needed respite from the same old Big-Hair nonsense.
It sucks that I'm leaving town on Friday, I'm going to have to wait two full weeks to get back and try the songs out.

What made you get one? Blu-Ray, price-drop, or a particular game?
Have you played "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" yet?

The DLC for Rock Band is much of the reason that it is above and beyond Guitar Hero. There's been some good packs.
On the subject of RB... I've managed to crack 3 of the 4 drum heads and break a drumstick. The red one has an actual hole in the center now so I have to avoid that area. It was fine until I started playing the harder songs on expert. I have to really get into it and I can't really tone down my playing style when I'm working that hard. I'm a power drummer, being all finese doesn't work for me very well at those levels.

Blu-Ray, price-drop, or a particular game?The former two.
Actually, my husband bought it. He calls it "his" but the Wii has barely been touched since we'd had the PS3 for a couple of days because we've all been playing it. The only two games we have are R&C and Motor Storm. We'll be getting a Blockbuster membership so that we can try out others, but being as we're new to this, we're not sure what we should get.
We don't have it hooked up to the net yet, though I hope to have that done sometime in the next week. We don't have wireless internet in the house, so we're trying to figure out the best way to do it.
Any guidance you fine fellows can give?

Add a wireless router. Unless you want to stream video from your PC to your PS3, in which case you should run a cable through the attic or crawl-space.

Yeah, it's a godsend to have a wireless router. I have a Mac and a Wii, both wireless systems, and it allows me to set my router up by my TV for my 360 so I don't have that far to stretch a ethernet cable. Screw spending another $100 for a wireless adapter for my Xbox 360. Fucking nickel and dime shit.

I couldn't live without my wireless network. My wife roams on her laptop everywhere. My DS and PSP use it to get online, and my PSP links with my PS3 over it. But my main PC, PS3, 360, and Wii are all in the same room and all are using a wired connection. This lets me transfer files from my PC to my consoles much more quickly. And I even went through the trouble of running an ethernet cable from my office to my living room so my PS3 can be plugged in out there and stream video and audio from my PC more smoothly.
I think the wireless is indispensable, but I can't wait for the shit to get faster!

ZB, you anywhere in IL? I'm a comp tech. Ok, there I said it. Now you know there is a resident computer technician. I'll give you a DD discount if you need the help setting up :)
Anyway, who has which version of RB? I have the 360 one, would love to get a band online to play.

Swivel, are you up to Wireless N? That's the fastest, but none of the consoles have the adaptors yet. Currently running N in my house. My laptops are hitting at 300mpbs wireless

We already had to get a new guitar, we had to temporarily use the GH one. They replaced it for free.
The kids got theirs for Xmas, and it broke in like Feb.
The song I hate most on this game "I think I'm Paranoid".
I have to ask my husband which songs he purchased, I know he got the Nirvana one I think.
The Metallica songs suck, IMO. Too long.

I'm running a wired network. I have a wireless 802.11g router that I keep on for my wife's laptop (and so she can print wirelessly), but everything I do is over a cat5e connection. I transfer files between my PC and PS3, and stream A/V stuff, so I don't like the wireless speeds, even of pre-N routers.

Uhhh... because it takes for-fucking-ever? Because you have to suck at it for a long time before you can play anything "fun"? Because you have to bleed your pads for a few months before you develop the callouses you need to sustain long periods of play?
Because every other douchebag trying to get laid already knows how to play guitar, so you are better off distinguishing yourself by using the 6 hours a day these idiots waste on being mediocre at a too-popular instrument by reading a book and wowing the fairer sex by being intelligent enough to understand the difference between playing a videogame and doing something in REAL LIFE?
So I was playing Microsoft Flight Simulator yesterday, enjoying a nice aerial tour of London in a Cessna. Am I an idiot for doing this, rather than going out and learning to fly a real plane? Should I put down Call of Duty and join the military? Are you really this full of yourself that you have to brag on a forum about your ability to play 8 songs on an out-of-tune piece-of-shit guitar that you have to poke fun of people that just want to play a VIDEOGAME? That makes me feel sorry for you.
For the record, my wife LOVES playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band with me. It has us spending more time together than when I was playing games she had no interest in. This has improved my sex life immensely.
Now why don't you log off and go to a coffee shop? :p
